Murramarang South Coast Walk
About this walking route
The Murramarang South Coast Walk strings together 34 km of pristine NSW coast south of Batemans Bay over 3–4 days. You'll walk through open spotted-gum woodland and along sandy beaches punctuated by rocky headlands, with the chance to encounter eastern grey kangaroos grazing on Pebbly Beach. The route is relatively new and well-marked, offering accessible coastal wilderness without extreme exposure or scrambling. This is a moderate walk suited to walkers with decent fitness and navigation skills. Water and camping are the main logistics to plan; the coast is exposed to southerly swell and weather can shift quickly.
Highlights
- Pebbly Beach — wild kangaroos on sand
- Spotted-gum forest with open understory
- Linked sandy bays and rocky headland passages
- Relatively undeveloped NSW south coast
- Achievable 3–4 day multi-day itinerary
What to expect
Sandy beach walking interspersed with short forest sections through open woodland. Occasional rocky headland traverses — not technical but uneven underfoot. Gradual elevation changes as you move between bays. Expect cool to mild coastal weather; southerly winds and rain are common, especially autumn and winter. The walk feels remote but is logistically straightforward with good trail markers.
Good to know
Walk autumn to early spring for calmer seas and cooler conditions. Check with Eurobodalla Shire Council or the local park authority for current track conditions, campsite availability and any seasonal closures. Bring plenty of water — beach sources are scarce and unreliable. Establish a shuttle or one-way transport plan beforehand. Leave no trace; camp only at designated sites. Moderate fitness and basic navigation required.
