The Freycinet Peninsula Circuit is a moderate 30 km loop that circumnavigates the dramatic pink-granite Hazards, taking in the famous Wineglass Bay, Hazards Beach and Cooks Beach over 2–3 days. This walk is one of Tasmania's most popular coastal routes, combining steep saddle climbs with long, exposed beaches and weathered granite peaks. The circuit offers a genuine wilderness experience within reach of day-walkers, though overnight camping or hut stays add flexibility and allow you to move at a relaxed pace.

What to expect
A challenging mix of steep granite slopes, saddle scrambles and long beach walks. Terrain is rocky, with loose scree on exposed ridges and soft sand on the beaches; boots essential. Gradients are consistently steep in and out of saddles. Expect exposed conditions on the peaks—wind and weather change rapidly. The circuit is unshaded and sun-exposed; tides affect beach walking and campsite access. Allow 6–8 hours for a full day's walking.

Walk March to November; avoid winter storms and summer crowds. Freycinet is day-walk popular—start early to avoid midday heat. Book campsites or huts well ahead through Parks Tasmania. Bring at least 2 litres water; reliable sources are limited. Tides govern beach access around Hazards Beach; check tide times before departure. Light pack and strong legs essential; scrambling experience helpful. Camp responsibly and pack all rubbish out.
